Two Piece Nauvoo Temple Set

On April 6, 1846, On April 6, 1841, an impoverished people laid the cornerstone for a million-dollar structure--the original Nauvoo Temple. The Prophet Joseph Smith appointed William Weeks as the architect for one of the finest buildings in the west in the 1840s. During its construction, members donated one out of every ten days to labor on the temple, plus 10% of their increase until completion. Women donated their heirlooms and time cooking food and making clothing for the men working on this sacred edifice. The temple was dedicated on May 1, 1846 by Orson Hyde. Two years later, the city of Nauvoo, once a thriving city close in size to Chicago, lay practically deserted as the Saints had been forced out of the city by mobs; Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum had been martyred. The temple was eventually gutted by arsonists in 1848 and the walls were toppled by a tornado in 1850. The remaining wall was removed by order of the city council.

The Nauvoo Temple, so loved by the saints, has now been rebuilt as was announced by President Gordon B. Hinckley on April 4, 1999 stating, "...the new building will stand as a memorial to those who built the first such structure there on the banks of the Mississippi."

We are proud to bring you this boxed 2-piece Nauvoo Temple Set.
